The most famous wave in Sardinia and one of the best in the Mediterranean: a powerful reef break off the rocky cape on the Sinis peninsula, with lefts and rights 50 to 150 m long. It holds big swell, from about 1 m to well over 3 m, and gets hollow.

Local tips

Not a spot to learn on. Watch where locals go in and out over the rocks, and respect the pecking order. When it is too big or crowded, Mini Capo next door is often the choice.

Getting there

From Oristano drive north to Putzu Idu and Mandriola, then follow the track towards the cape and its lighthouse; the parking is above the point.

Travel notes

How often it works
One of the most consistent reef breaks in Italy in the cooler months. Mistral (north-west) storms send the swell; it works through autumn, winter and spring and is mostly flat in summer.
Crowd and vibe
Very crowded on good days with surfers from all over Sardinia and beyond. A strong local crew; visitors who wait their turn are tolerated.
Camping and vans
The closest campsites we found are Agricampeggio Murtas, about 8 km away, and Camping Is Aruttas, about 9 km away. Nearest campsite about 7.7 km away.
Facilities
Bars, restaurants and surf shops in Putzu Idu and Mandriola, about 2 km away; little at the point itself.
Water quality
The EU bathing sites around the cape were rated excellent from 2023 to 2025.
