Castlerock beach runs east from the village to the Barmouth, where the River Bann reaches the sea between two stone piers. Along the main beach the waves are small and soft, which suits beginners and longboarders. By the piers, sand collects in banks, and on the Castlerock side these can give a long right.

Local tips

The banks by the piers work best on a medium swell, usually around mid tide. Stay out of the river channel, where the current is strong.

Getting there

Park near the toilet block at the village end, or drive down onto the beach. Stay to the right of the posts if you drive on the sand, and take care not to get stuck.
