Praia do Almoxarife is a black sand and rock beach on Faial's east coast, looking across to the volcano on Pico. It has lefts and rights that change with the swell; there are fun lefts near the small jetty. Autumn and winter bring the most waves but also more exposed rocks; spring and summer are gentler and better for learning.
