A right-hander that forms beside the breakwater at the mouth of the Bidasoa, at the eastern end of the Gipuzkoa coast. Most of the year the beach is calm water inside Txingudi bay, and the official beach guide lists it as a quiet bathing beach. It wakes up only in big north-west winter storms, when a long, open wall runs down the jetty on a sand bottom. On those days it is a mellow, rippable wave that suits longboards as well as shortboards.

Local tips
Treat it as a storm-day option, when the open beaches further west are too big. When it does break, the local crowd turns up fast and set waves are hard to get, so be patient and take turns. Keep clear of the jetty rocks and of boat traffic in the river mouth.
Getting there
There are two car parks right behind the beach, close to Hondarribia town centre. Buses run from Irun and Donostia, and a small ferry crosses the bay from the Hendaye marina about every 15 minutes.
