A sandy beach at the back of a deep cove with high cliffs on the Copper Coast, between Bunmahon and Annestown. A central peak gives lefts and rights with a steep take-off. The cliffs shelter it from south-west winds, so it is a backup when the open beaches are blown out.

  • rocks

Best months

Local tips

Expect a steep, late drop. A strong current flows out of the stream mouth, so keep away from it.

Getting there

Off the R675 coast road; there is a free car park above the cove.

Travel notes

How often it works
A backup spot: it comes into its own when south-west winds spoil the rest of the south coast. Surf-forecast lists it as fairly consistent, but in a typical January it is too small more than half the time.
Crowd and vibe
Rarely busy. It is mostly surfed when the open beaches are blown out.
Facilities
Car park only.
Water quality
Not one of the EPA's monitored bathing waters, so there is no official rating.
