Local tips

Get in from the small pebbly cove between the rocks and wait for the set to pass on big days, as the current pushes you towards the breakwater. Cuts on the feet are common; booties help.

Getting there

Walk to the southern end of the Las Canteras promenade, past La Cícer.

Travel notes

How often it works
Consistent from October to May.
Crowd and vibe
Crowded, with locals who expect visitors to wait their turn and some reported hostility.
Camping and vans
Wild camping is not allowed on Gran Canaria. The island council (Cabildo) runs camping zones that need a permit booked online, and the closest legal option to camping by the sea is the campsite at Playa de Vargas on the east coast. The Canary Government's draft decree would ban tourist overnight stays in vans outside official campsites.
Facilities
City promenade with parking nearby, a shopping centre, restaurants, showers and surf shops.
Water quality
In the 2025 EU bathing-water results, the Las Canteras points were all rated excellent, as in all earlier years.
