The main beach of De Koog is Texel's best-known surf beach, with a surf school on the sand. A sandbar sits just off the beach, so some waves close out on it; the better peaks are a little to the right of the main entrance, where the bar ends. On a good swell it has many peaks, some steep and hollow.

It rarely gets crowded. In summer the line-up is mostly learners from the surf school.

Facilities
Beach pavilions, toilets, a surf school and lifeguards in summer; the village has shops and cafés.
Water quality
The EU bathing-water site De Koog is rated excellent for 2025 in the European Environment Agency data. It was also excellent in 2023 and 2024.
