Uhabia is the widest and largest beach in Bidart, where the small Uhabia river reaches the sea. Gentle peaks over sand make it the easiest beach in town and a natural place for surf schools on small days. Water quality can drop after heavy rain because of the river.

Local tips

Stay out of the water for a day or two after big rain. Surf schools use the beach most of the year, so give lessons room.

Getting there

Two large car parks on rue des Tamaris and avenue d'Espagne (paid mid-June to mid-September), bus stops, an accessible beach and a greenway along the river; lifeguards from mid-June to the end of October.

Travel notes

How often it works
A sheltered sandy beach that works on most swells, and stays small and friendly. That is why surf schools use it most of the year.
Crowd and vibe
Busy with surf schools, so give lessons room. The mood is relaxed.
Camping and vans
The tourist office says many campsites lie along the green way by the Uhabia river, behind the beach. Camping Itsas Mendi in Acotz is about 2.5 km south. Nearest campsite about 2.5 km away.
Facilities
There are toilets, restaurants, two large car parks (paid mid-June to mid-September), bus stops, an accessible beach and lifeguards from mid-June to the end of October.
Water quality
Uhabia is the one Bidart beach without the Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) on the Communauté Pays Basque list (2025). It sits at a stream mouth, so stay out of the water for a day or two after heavy rain. Check the Kalilo app.
