Comporta is a long, open sandy beach south of the Tróia peninsula, backed by dunes and rice fields. It is a simple beach break with peaks both ways. Waves are often soft and a bit messy, which makes it easy for beginners on small days.

When it works

✓ A 1–2 m west to south-west swell with an east or north-east wind; it works on all tides.

When it doesn't

✕ Strong north-west winds, and swells from the north, which are blocked by Cabo Espichel and the Tróia coast.

Watch out for

  • rips

Best months

October, November, December, January, February, March, April

Local tips

A good choice on a south-west swell, when the coast further north is weak. Bring all you need: there is little here outside summer.

Getting there

From Comporta village follow the road west to the beach car park.

Travel notes

How often it works
It needs a swell with some south in it; north-west swells reach it weakly. Expect waves on fewer days than on the Sines coast.
Crowd and vibe
Empty on weekdays and quiet at weekends.
Camping and vans
A small caravan site sits about 1.5 km from the beach. Portuguese law limits motorhome overnight stays outside campsites to 48 hours and bans them in protected areas. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in summer, toilets, parking and beach restaurants.
Water quality
Rated excellent in the 2025 official bathing-water classification (APA), and it flies a Blue Flag in 2026.
