Langland is a south-facing sandy bay just west of Mumbles, the closest Gower surf spot to Swansea. Beginners use the sandbars in the middle of the bay, while a right-hand point at the west end and reefs at the sides suit longboarders and better surfers. It is rarely very hollow.

Learners should stay in the middle of the bay, away from the reefs. Crab Island, at the east end, is a shallow reef wave for low tide only. The local Gower crew expect respect.

Travel notes

How often it works
Quite reliable for Gower and works through the year, although summer is often small. It needs a bit more swell than Llangennith.
Crowd and vibe
Busy, because it is close to Swansea. Young and old surf here and the mood is good if you wait your turn.
Camping and vans
No campsite in the bay. Blackhills and Fairfield caravan parks are about 5 km west, and Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park about 7 km. Nearest campsite about 5 km away.
Facilities
Council car park, accessible toilets, an outdoor shower and cafés. Lifeguards daily in summer, 10am–6pm.
Water quality
Langland Bay is rated excellent in the 2025 Welsh classification.
