Parede is a right-hand reef on the Cascais line, between Carcavelos and São Pedro do Estoril. On a big swell it gives a wedgy, hollow wall that is very good to surf. It is sheltered, so it needs a large swell, but then it is usually smaller and cleaner than the open coast.

  • reef

Local tips

When the west coast is huge and messy, Parede can give a smaller, cleaner dose. A train stop is close by.

Getting there

On the Marginal coast road after Carcavelos; turn round at São Pedro to park on the beach side.

Travel notes

How often it works
It only works when a large swell wraps in. North winds are common in winter, so when it breaks it is usually offshore.
Crowd and vibe
Far fewer people than Carcavelos. A small group of regulars, some of the better surfers from Carcavelos; be easy-going and you'll be fine.
Camping and vans
Orbitur Guincho is about 11 km west and Orbitur Costa da Caparica is across the Tagus. Portuguese law limits motorhome overnight stays to 48 hours outside campsites.
Facilities
Lifeguards in summer, toilets, showers and parking; train station nearby.
Water quality
Rated excellent in the 2025 official bathing-water classification (APA), and it flies a Blue Flag in 2026. Avoid the water after heavy rain.
