Praia das Bicas is a cliff-backed beach just south of Meco, on the Sesimbra coast. The main peak in front of the beach entrance breaks both ways over rock and sand: the left is usually the better wave, while the right is fast and hollow with a rocky inside section. A rarely surfed left under the cliffs handles bigger swells when the main peak is crowded.

✓ A 1.5–3 m west to north-west swell with an east to south-east wind, from low to mid tide on the rise.

When it doesn't

✕ Swells under about 1 m, which are not worth it, and northerly or westerly winds.

Local tips

Watch the rocks on the right, especially at low tide, and wear booties for the sea urchins. When the tide drops, the longer, softer left on the right-hand side of the beach is the better choice.
