Local tips

It can get crowded; the overcrowding itself can be a hazard. Taganana and Benijo are close if it is too busy.

Getting there

From La Laguna, take the winding TF-12 and TF-134 through the Anaga mountains to Taganana and on to Almáciga; park above the beach and walk down.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fairly consistent through the year when north swells arrive.
Crowd and vibe
Mostly empty on weekdays, a few surfers at weekends, crowded on good days.
Camping and vans
Wild camping is not allowed on Tenerife. The island council (Cabildo) runs camping zones, mostly in the hills and forests, that need a permit booked in advance. The Canary Government's draft decree would ban tourist overnight stays in vans outside official campsites.
Facilities
A few fish restaurants in Almáciga and Benijo. Little else in the rural park.
Water quality
There is no official bathing-water point on this stretch of the Anaga coast; the nearest ones, on the other side of the Anaga massif, are not representative.
