A small harbour in the village of Åsa, on the Halland coast between Gothenburg and Varberg. A right breaks along the old jetty over sand and rocks. It sits in a bay, so it is more sheltered than the open beaches further south and needs a strong blow to work.

Local tips
Get in inside the harbour and paddle out along the jetty. After a long ride, paddle in to the inside of the old jetty and walk back out instead of paddling. Don't park in the harbour: it is private, and the owners don't like surfers' cars there. The tide is only a few centimetres, so it doesn't matter here. The sea drops to about 2 °C in winter: a 6/5 wetsuit or thicker, with boots, gloves and a hood.
Getting there
In the village of Åsa, between Kungsbacka and Varberg. Park in the village, not in the harbour.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- The Kattegat has no ocean swell and almost no tide. Waves come from strong westerly winds blowing across it, so Åsa works on and off from autumn to early spring, and summer is mostly flat. It is less consistent than Apelviken.
- Crowd and vibe
- Empty in the week and a few surfers at weekends.
- Camping and vans
- We have no sourced campsite close to the harbour. The nearest we can confirm is Apelvikens Camping in Varberg, about 30 km south, next to the Apelviken break.
- Facilities
- A small boat harbour; we found no other facilities listed at the break.
- Water quality
- There is no EU bathing-water site at the harbour. The nearest, Sörvik about 2 km east, was rated sufficient in 2025 after poor ratings in 2021–2024; Gårda brygga, about 3 km north, was rated excellent in 2025 (European Environment Agency data).
