Local tips

A local on wannasurf calls it simply a winter beach break: go after a storm, when the wind swings east. The breakwaters at the north end shape the banks.

Getting there

On the Paseo Marítimo just south of the old town, reachable on foot or by city bus. Street parking is hard.

Travel notes

How often it works
Only a winter spot. In summer it is usually flat. In winter it gets waves fairly often, but they depend a lot on the wind.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers on weekdays, crowded at weekends. Wannasurf lists localism, but the local commenter says it hardly exists if you respect the line-up.
Camping and vans
There is no campsite in Cádiz city. The nearest sourced site is Camping TAIGA Puerto Santa María, across the bay.
Facilities
City services all around: showers, lifeguards in summer, bars and surf shops.
Water quality
Santa María del Mar was rated excellent in the EU bathing-water assessment (EEA data from Náyade) for the last three seasons. Wannasurf still flags pollution, so avoid surfing just after heavy rain.
