A sandbar wave next to the harbour mole of the Damp resort, on the east-facing coast north of Kiel. It is a wind-swell spot for strong easterly winds; the line-up sits right at the mole head and the waves are mostly lefts.

Local tips

Watch the wind forecast, not the swell forecast: go when a strong onshore wind has blown for some hours, and catch the last waves as it eases or turns. You can jump in beside the mole and be in the line-up almost at once. In a bigger swell the waves break 10–20 m before the mole. The Baltic is about 2–5 °C in winter, colder than the North Sea: a 6/5 wetsuit with boots, gloves and a hood.

How often it works
The Baltic has no ocean swell and almost no tide. Waves only come with a strong onshore wind of about force 5–6 or more, so it works a handful of days a month in autumn and winter at best, and the waves die soon after the wind drops.
Crowd and vibe
Small take-off zone, so it gets crowded quickly when it works.

Damp Ostseecamping is about 1.5 km away. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.

Resort with shops, cafés, toilets and a beach promenade.
Water quality
The EU bathing-water site Damp Hauptstrand was rated excellent in 2023, 2024 and 2025 in the European Environment Agency data. Wannasurf still lists pollution as a hazard at the harbour spot.
