Cave, also called Sete Bafos, is a heavy right-hand slab just south of Coxos, in front of Praia da Pesqueira. The wave throws thick, hollow barrels over very shallow rock, and it often blows spray out of the tube. It is one of the heaviest waves in Ericeira and is ridden mostly by experienced bodyboarders.

When it doesn't

  • reef
  • rocks
  • rips

Local tips

Only paddle out if you have surfed heavy slabs before. When Reef (Praia da Empa) is fully working, Cave is usually working too.

Getting there

Reached on a rough track from Ribamar towards Praia da Pesqueira, next to the Coxos bay.

Travel notes

How often it works
It only breaks on solid winter swells; summer is usually flat.
