Foz do Lizandro is the long sandy beach at the mouth of the Lizandro river, just south of Ericeira. The river builds sandbanks that give A-frame peaks along about 300 m of beach, with a good central peak. It is Ericeira's best beginner spot and surf schools use it every day.

Travel notes

How often it works
Regular all year; it is at its best for learners in spring and summer, when the swells are smaller.
Crowd and vibe
Busy with surf schools, especially in summer, but the beach is big and locals are described as friendly.
Camping and vans
Ericeira Camping at Mil Regos, on the N247 just north of town, is open all year and sits about 200 m from the sea. Next to it, the Mil Regos motorhome area has about 15 places with water and waste disposal. Portuguese law limits motorhome overnight stays to 48 hours outside campsites and bans them in protected areas. Nearest campsite about 3.5 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in summer, toilets, showers, parking, surf schools and fish restaurants by the river.
Water quality
Rated excellent in the 2025 official bathing-water classification (APA), and it flies a Blue Flag in 2026. Like any river mouth, it can be affected after heavy rain.
