A long golden beach under the high Famara cliffs on the north-west coast, and the centre of surfing on Lanzarote. Shifting sand peaks give lefts and rights along several kilometres, so there is room for everyone. Most of the island's surf schools teach here, and stronger surfers find punchy peaks further along the beach on bigger days.

Local tips
Go in the morning, before the wind and the school groups. The currents are strong along the whole beach, so stay near lifeguards or a school if you are new to it. When it is too big or too windy, the reefs at San Juan and La Santa are close.
Getting there
Caleta de Famara is at the end of the LZ-402. Park at the beach car park at the southern end of the village and walk onto the sand.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- One of the most consistent beaches in the Canaries from autumn to spring. Summer is smaller but still often surfable.
- Crowd and vibe
- The beach is big, so the lineup spreads out. Lessons fill the inside, while the outside peaks are relaxed.
- Camping and vans
- Wild camping is banned on Lanzarote. The only regulated camping area is at Papagayo in the far south, open in set periods with a booking. Vans parked overnight at Famara and Caletón Blanco are a known problem, and overnight stays there are not allowed.
- Facilities
- Many surf schools, board rental, cafés and restaurants in Caleta de Famara, and a big free car park behind the beach.
- Water quality
- In the 2025 EU bathing-water results, Playa de Famara was rated excellent. The sampling point inside La Caleta harbour slipped from excellent to good.
