Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast says it usually has waves and works all year, whatever the tide.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers on weekdays and crowded at weekends. It is a city break, likely busy whenever it works.
Camping and vans
Orbitur Angeiras, on the coast north of Matosinhos, is about 9 km away. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 9 km away.
Facilities
An urban beach with lifeguards in season, a first-aid post, toilets, showers, beach concessions and wheelchair access. Cafés, shops and public transport nearby.
Water quality
Leça was rated excellent in APA's latest annual classification and flies a Blue Flag in 2026. Wannasurf contributors still mention some pollution near the port, so avoid it after heavy rain.
