Azurara, also called Praia de Árvore, is the beach south of the Ave river mouth, in front of the Árvore campsite. Wannasurf describes two waves: a left in the middle of the beach that can be fast and hollow on good days, and a triangular right peak by the river mouth that only works when the sand is right. Locals go there when the sea is big.

Getting there

Follow signs for the Árvore campsite from Vila do Conde; the beach is right in front of it.

Travel notes

How often it works
It needs a larger swell than the open beaches, so it is a winter spot. Surf-forecast says it rarely gets crowded.
Crowd and vibe
Empty on weekdays and quiet at weekends, according to wannasurf.
Camping and vans
The Árvore campsite is right behind the beach. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in season, a first-aid post, toilets and a beach bar.
Water quality
Árvore beach was rated 'good' in APA's latest annual classification and has no Blue Flag. The river mouth can carry run-off after rain.
