Trégana is a south-facing sand beach backed by small dunes in the Anse de Bertheaume, near the mouth of the Goulet de Brest. The sand bar mostly gives a big, hollow shorebreak, more lefts than rights, which bodyboarders enjoy. It is usually flat in summer and comes alive in winter on a south-west swell, often when the open spots are too big. When the swell is too big here as well, Trez Hir along the bay is the better bet.

Local tips
Keep clear of the rocks at the ends of the beach, where the current can push you onto them, and watch for sea urchins. The rising mid tide is the usual time to go. It is generally quiet, but the regulars are mostly bodyboarders, so respect the pecking order.

Travel notes
- How often it works
- Only breaks sometimes. This south-facing sandbank is usually flat in summer and needs a south-west swell of about 1.5 m or more. So it is mainly a winter spot, often working when the open coast is too big.
- Crowd and vibe
- Often empty on weekdays, with only a few surfers at weekends. A close-knit group of local bodyboarders surfs here, so keep a low profile and let the regulars go first.
- Camping and vans
- The municipal Camping de Portez is about 0.5 km away, above the next beach, Portez. It is open from April to mid-October, with motorhome services and a small motorhome area below the site. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Toilets, drinking water, a first-aid post and summer lifeguards are at the beach. Minou Surf School has its base on the Route de Trégana.
- Water quality
- Rated excellent by the French health ministry every year from 2022 to 2025. Almost all 2026 summer samples were good.
