Praia da Vila is Nazaré's town beach, south of the headland, in front of the old fishing quarter. It is a hollow, fast, powerful beach break and, on big days, one of the heaviest waves in Portugal. It is busy with tourists in summer, when the waves are usually poor; winter is the season.

Keep a low profile in the line-up; wannasurf notes strong localism. On big days it is for pros only.

Getting there

The beach runs along the town's seafront avenue. Park in town and walk.

Travel notes

How often it works
Very consistent in winter, and it holds big swells because the headland gives some shelter from the north.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers on weekdays in winter; in summer the beach is full of tourists. Localism is reported.
Camping and vans
Orbitur Valado is about 1.5 km from the town, a 20-minute walk. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in season, a first-aid post, toilets, showers and wheelchair access. Restaurants and shops along the seafront.
Water quality
The town beach was rated excellent in APA's latest annual classification and flies a Blue Flag in 2026.
