Almagreira is a wide beach below the cliffs at Ferrel, east of Baleal, on the north-facing side of the Peniche coast. It gives peaky waves over sand with patches of reef. It is best with a south wind, which blows offshore here, and it catches more swell than the beaches of the Baleal bay.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fairly consistent and able to work all year, per surf-forecast. It needs a south wind to be good.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers on weekdays and crowded at weekends; surf-forecast calls it fairly popular.
Camping and vans
Urban Art Camping in Ferrel is a few minutes from the beach; wannasurf also mentions a small campsite a short walk away. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
No lifeguards or facilities on the beach itself. Cafés and shops in Ferrel.
Water quality
Almagreira is not an official bathing beach, so APA does not test it; nearby Baleal Norte was rated excellent.
