Rest Bay is Porthcawl's main surf beach: a long, west-facing stretch of sand with rocks at both ends. It picks up much more swell than the town beaches and has peaks for every level. The size changes a lot with the tide: it can be tiny at low tide and overhead at high tide on the same day.

Local tips
At low tide, look at the outer sandbanks to see how big the swell really is. On days when Rest Bay is too big, Coney Beach and the Point are close by and more sheltered. Give the regulars space at the main peak.
Getting there
Go to the roundabout at Nottage and follow the Rest Bay signs. The road ends at a car park above the beach.
