Travel notes
- How often it works
- Fairly consistent through autumn, winter and spring. It faces the swell more squarely than the spots further east, so it works on medium swells.
- Crowd and vibe
- Empty on many weekdays but crowded on good weekends, when surfers from Cardiff and Bridgend come down.
- Camping and vans
- Three Golden Cups Campsite is about 1 km away at the top of the hill. Heritage Coast Campsite is about 4 km east. Nearest campsite about 1 km away.
- Facilities
- Pay car park and seasonal toilets and café above the beach. The Three Golden Cups pub is in the village.
- Water quality
- Southerndown is rated excellent in the 2025 Welsh classification. The neighbouring Ogmore-by-Sea site is rated poor, so avoid the river mouth to the north after rain.
