Praa Sands is a long sandy beach on the south coast of Cornwall, between Penzance and Porthleven. It needs a south-west swell, and on those days it can feel like a beach in south-west France, with peaks all along the sand. It is the place to go when northerly winds blow out the north coast.

When it doesn't

✕ Small swells, southerly winds, and high tide, when the beach shelves steeply and the waves dump.

Local tips

Walk along the beach to find a peak on your own. At high tide it only works when the swell is big.

Getting there

All four car parks are at the western end. After the first one, the road turns into a slipway down to the beach.
