Port Blanc is the first cove of the Côte Sauvage, the cliff-lined west coast of the Quiberon peninsula, and the best-known surf spot on it. Sand over rock gives fast, punchy A-frame peaks, the rights usually longer than the lefts, that can throw hollow sections and also close out; on bigger swells it starts to behave more like a reef point. The cliffs at the north end give some shelter from northerly wind, which helps make it the most popular and most crowded of the coves. Since 2022 it has been part of a stretch of coast declared France's first wave reserve.

Local tips
Surf the lower and middle part of the tide and get out before high water, when the rocks near the exit are the main danger. The line-up is small and hierarchical: come with no more than a few friends, wait your turn and never drop in; July and August are best avoided. Dawn sessions are quieter, and when it is too big or full the Penthièvre isthmus and the Plouharnel beaches are the fallback.
Getting there
Follow signs for the Côte Sauvage from the D768 near Saint-Pierre-Quiberon and take the coastal road west and south; surfers park along the road above the cove near the rock known as La Truie and walk down in a few minutes. Swimming is banned along the whole Côte Sauvage and there are no lifeguards.
History
In February 2022 the Saint-Pierre-Quiberon council, prompted by the association France Hydrodiversité, declared about 30 hectares of coast from Port Bara to Port Blanc a 'wave reserve', committing never to allow sand extraction or works that could alter the waves.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- It is one of the most consistent spots on the south Brittany coast. The coves of the Côte Sauvage face straight into the swell, so there is often a wave here when the bays are flat. Summer is still often flat.
- Crowd and vibe
- Weekdays are fairly quiet, but weekends and holidays get crowded. The line-up is local and has a clear pecking order: come in a small group, wait your turn and never drop in.
- Camping and vans
- Camping de l'Océan and Camping Park Er Lann in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon are both about 2–2.5 km away. Nearest campsite about 2 km away.
- Facilities
- There are no facilities at the cove: no lifeguards, toilets or cafés, only roadside parking above the beach.
- Water quality
- Swimming is banned on the Côte Sauvage, so Port Blanc has no monitoring point. The nearest one, Le Fozo on the bay side, was rated good every season from 2022 to 2025, but it had one failed sample in 2026.
