Fajã da Areia, just east of São Vicente on the north coast, is one of the most consistent waves on Madeira. A peak over cobbles and rocky reef gives quality rights and lefts, with room for turns and the odd barrel. The right is usually longer and hollower. The bottom is more forgiving than the lava ledges elsewhere, which makes it the island's top wave for intermediate surfers.
