Seixal is a small harbour village on the north coast, with a black-sand beach in a natural bay protected by a breakwater. It is one of the few true beginner spots on Madeira. On small north swells it has little peaks and soft lefts toward the harbour, over sand mixed with rocks. It is usually very small.

Crowd and vibe
Mostly learners with schools; relaxed.
Camping and vans
The council-run Parque de Campismo do Porto Moniz sits in the Ribeira da Janela valley, about 100 m from the beach there, with showers, toilets, a laundry and a cooking area. It reopened in 2026 after several months of repairs; it is the only campsite on Madeira. Nearest campsite about 6 km away.
Facilities
Cafés and restaurants in the village.
Water quality
Porto do Seixal, the Seixal sailing club and nearby Laje beach were rated excellent in the EU bathing-water assessment (EEA data from APA and the regional government) for the last three seasons.
