Los Lances is the long beach running west from Tarifa town, best known as a kitesurfing beach. It only gets surf a few days a year, when a south-west swell pushes in on a calm day. Then it has long beach-break peaks, with a rocky right at the old bunker near the middle. Strong rips run along the beach.

Local tips

Walk away from town for space; kiters crowd the beach in summer. The rocky right by the old bunker, called Bunker del Hurricane, holds waves up to about 2 m and suits intermediate surfers.

From the N-340 and Tarifa town, with car parks along the beach; much of it is a protected natural area.

Camping Río Jara is on the beach on the N-340 at km 80, and Camping Torre de la Peña and Camping Tarifa are a few kilometres west. Nearest campsite about 2.5 km away.
