Yerbabuena, also called Hierbabuena or El Chorro, is a right-hand point below the cliffs of the Breña natural park, just west of Barbate. Many consider it the best right in Andalusia. The swell lines wrap around and break over flat rock with an easy drop, then a hollow, ledging section, then a long wall. It only works with a good swell.

Local tips
Check El Palmar and Los Caños first: wannasurf says that if Los Caños has good size, Yerbabuena is worth the drive. Car break-ins are common, so park in town and leave nothing in the car.
Getting there
A dirt track leaves the Barbate–Los Caños road on the left; then about 15 minutes on foot through the natural park.
History
Surfmarket says the Open Surf Yerbabuena has been held here every year for many years, drawing top surfers from mainland Spain and the Canaries.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Unreliable: it needs a solid groundswell (about 1.5 m or more) to wrap in, so it mainly breaks in winter storms.
- Crowd and vibe
- Crowded when it works, and wannasurf reports more tension in the water in recent years. It gets calmer when it is bigger.
- Camping and vans
- The nearest sourced campsites are in Los Caños de Meca, a few kilometres west (Camping Camaleón, Camping Caños de Meca). Nearest campsite about 4 km away.
- Facilities
- Nothing at the point; bars and shops in Barbate.
- Water quality
- Hierbabuena beach was rated excellent in the EU bathing-water assessment (EEA data from Náyade) for the last three seasons. Wannasurf still lists pollution as a hazard.
