Travel notes

How often it works
It works only when an east or south-east wind swell reaches the city, mostly from October to April. On a good week there are two or three surfable days, and it is often flat in between.
Crowd and vibe
Packed whenever there are waves, with surf schools in the water and many beginners. The peak by the wall has a strong local crowd. Be patient and don't drop in.
Camping and vans
No campsites in Barcelona. The nearest are Càmping Tres Estrelles in Gavà and Camping Estrella de Mar in Castelldefels, about 17 to 20 km south. Nearest campsite about 17 km away.
Facilities
Everything a city beach has: lifeguards in summer, showers, toilets, beach bars, surf shops, schools and board rental.
Water quality
Náyade lists Sant Sebastià as fit for bathing, with no failed samples in 2026. Some readings were higher than at beaches outside the city, and storm drains empty into the sea after heavy rain.
