A beach of almost 2 km on the northern edge of Bundoran, with Roughey Cliff at its southern end. Waves bounce back off the cliff and cross the new swell lines, so even small days give surf along much of the beach. The top spot is the peak by the cliff: mostly a quick left, with a shorter right.

Local tips

The cliff peak fills up fast and the line-up is competitive. Further down the beach, beyond the surf schools, the waves are much the same and there is more room. A strong current always runs along the cliff. Beginners should only surf here on small days, with an instructor.

Getting there

From Bundoran's main street, head north and follow the road past the surf chalets; a path leads down from the car park to the beach.

Travel notes

How often it works
One of the most reliable beaches in the area. The cliff and the open position mean even a small swell gives waves. The sand moves a lot, so the best spot changes from one week to the next.
Crowd and vibe
At the cliff peak it is crowded and noisy, but people stay good-humoured. The rest of the beach is calm. Surf schools use it all summer.
Facilities
Car park above the beach; Bundoran town, a few minutes away, has surf shops, schools, cafés and pubs.
Water quality
Tullan Strand is not an EPA-monitored bathing water. The main Bundoran beach, just south, is rated Excellent with a Blue Flag (EPA 2025).
