Kerloc'h is the northern end of the Anse de Dinan, in front of the Kerloc'h marsh and lagoon. A rock point and the tucked-away bay shelter it from the main swell, so it needs about 2 m to start, and it gets better the bigger it gets. On big days a long right peels off the point, with lefts higher up the tide. It is a local favourite on the biggest swells, gentle enough for improvers, but with a real current in winter.

Local tips

Paddle out on the left to stay out of the waves on the way to the main peak. In winter the water draining from the marsh drives a current south along the rocky right-hand side; if it takes you, ride a wave in and walk back rather than fight it. Waves break onto pebbles near the shore, so mind your ankles, and greet the locals and wait your turn. A cold morning after a storm has passed, with a northerly wind, is the classic set-up.

Getting there

On the D8 from Crozon to Camaret, take the road down the hill to the bay. Park on the roadside before the small bridge between the beach and the marsh, or in one of the small car parks along the road. The beach is a couple of minutes away and has a café in season.

History

The Étang de Kerloc'h behind the beach is a protected nature reserve, known for its reed beds and otters.

Travel notes

How often it works
A big-swell spot rather than an everyday one. The rocky point to the north softens the swell, so it needs about 2.5–3 m out at sea to start. Then it keeps working when the open coast is too big. Summers are mostly flat.
Crowd and vibe
Quiet in the week and usually just a few surfers at weekends. On big winter days it fills up, as it becomes the local favourite. Regulars expect visitors to say hello and wait their turn at the point.
Camping and vans
The nearest campsite is the 3-star Camping de la Plage de Goulien, at the south end of the bay. It is about 2 km away in a straight line, or roughly 5 km by road. Overnight parking in the bay is restricted, and Goulien's car park is daytime only with fines reported. Nearest campsite about 2.5 km away.
Facilities
There is a seasonal café by the beach. The official listing says there are no lifeguards, and surf schools work from Goulien and Crozon.
Water quality
It is an official bathing site and rated good every year from 2022 to 2025, with all 2025 and 2026 tests good. After heavy rain, the marsh behind the beach drains into the sea and can bring algae with it.
