A small cove under the cliffs of Slea Head at the tip of the Dingle peninsula, reached by a steep slipway. Most days it doesn't quite work. When it does, the peaks are strong and hollow, and the water is very clear. The currents are strong and the peaks move around, so come with some experience.

Local tips

Pick one peak and wait for it rather than chasing. The currents are strong at all the coves along Slea Head, so surfing the incoming tide is the safer choice. Keep clear of swimmers in summer.

Getting there

Follow the Slea Head Drive from Ventry; Coumeenole is the first cove with a car park and a steep slip down to the sand. Roadside parking is free.

Travel notes

Consistent swell, but the wave itself is fickle and needs the right wind.

A small parking area only.
Water quality
Not an EPA-monitored bathing water. Ventry (Fionntrá), on the same peninsula, was rated Excellent in 2025.
