A heavy right-hand slab off the little island just outside Doolin harbour. The wave stands up suddenly, with a steep drop and a thick lip, over a shallow, uneven reef. It catches more swell than most spots around it.

Local tips
For experts only. From the shore it is hard to tell how big the waves are, and the paddle out takes longer than you'd guess. Lose your board and you face a long swim against the current, so work out your way back before you go out.
Getting there
Park at the Doolin harbour car park. Get in the water from the steps a little beyond the new pier, about 15 m along; don't jump off the new pier.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Not very reliable: it needs a clean west swell and an offshore wind on the same day. When it lines up, it is one of the best waves in Clare.
- Crowd and vibe
- A small crew of experienced surfers, busier on the good days.
- Camping and vans
- Nagle's Doolin Camping & Caravan Park (open March to early October) is beside Doolin Pier. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Car parks and toilets at the harbour, with the ferries to the Aran Islands. Pubs and cafés are in Doolin village.
- Water quality
- Not an EPA-monitored bathing water, so there is no official rating.
Ideal conditions

- WSW–WNW best, SW–NW works
