Saint-Pabu is a quiet, open beach east of Erquy, between Caroual and La Ville Berneuf. The waves are softer and break more slowly than at Fréhel, and unlike its neighbours it works at any stage of the tide, which makes it the easiest place in the area to learn and progress.

Local tips

This is the local surf school's beginner beach, so use it when the hollower spots towards Fréhel are too much. Because it works through the tide, it is a good option when the tide is wrong for Sables-d'Or or Grèves d'en Bas.

Getting there

There is a car park at the east end of the beach, and the surf school meets at the top of it.

Travel notes

How often it works
It is open to north-west and west swells and works at any tide. That makes it a handy backup when the tide is wrong elsewhere. Like the rest of this coast, it needs a winter swell and is often flat in summer.
Crowd and vibe
Quiet and uncrowded most of the time. In summer, most people in the water are surf-school beginners and families from the beachfront campsite.
Camping and vans
Camping Saint-Pabu Plage, a five-star Yelloh! Village, is right behind the beach with direct access. Camping de la Plage de la Ville Berneuf, next door, is about 100 m from the sea. Long-stay motorhome parking is not allowed at the beach car parks. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
Toilets, showers, restaurants (including the campsite's) and free and paid parking. Armor Surf School's beginner lessons meet at the east car park, but it is unclear whether lifeguards work here in summer.
Water quality
Ministry data, as republished online, rate Saint-Pabu 'good' every year from 2022 to 2025. Several samples were average, in August to September 2025 and in June and August 2026.
