Longchamp is the main surf beach of the Côte d'Émeraude, a wide sand bay west of Saint-Lunaire, on the border with Saint-Briac, that faces straight up the Channel. It is irregular and needs a big spring tide to let the swell in, but on a good day the sandbanks throw steep, fast and sometimes properly hollow waves, and the rights tend to work best as the tide comes in. It cannot hold much size, and it gets busy with the local schools; small days suit confident beginners. The reefs of La Garde Guérin and Dame Jouanne just west are for experienced surfers only.

Local tips

Get there about two hours before high tide; the session usually lasts through the rising tide. Check La Garde Guérin, five minutes away, on the same trip and pick whichever looks better. In summer keep clear of the marked channel used by sailing boats, and take care near the rocks at the ends of the beach. It can still be worth a look in a light onshore wind.

Getting there

A car park sits off the coast road above the beach on the Saint-Lunaire / Saint-Briac border, less than five minutes' walk from the sand.

Travel notes

How often it works
Irregular. It needs a north-west swell and a big spring tide to let the waves in. A few good days are often followed by long flat spells, and summer is mostly flat. At best, in February, it is clean about one day in five.
Crowd and vibe
On weekdays it is often empty, and the locals are described as relaxed. It fills up on weekends and holidays, when two surf schools and a summer surf zone bring lots of learners. In summer, stay out of the channel used by sailing boats.
Camping and vans
Camping Longchamp (run by Cap Fun) on Boulevard de Saint-Cast is about 100 m from the beach and has motorhome service points. La Touesse campsite is about 300 m from La Fourberie beach, on the east side of Saint-Lunaire. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
In summer there are lifeguards and a first-aid post, plus toilets, a beach restaurant and two surf schools. Parking is free along Boulevard de Longchamp and on Rue de l'Aquilon, and dogs are banned from mid-June to mid-September.
Water quality
Longchamp Est was rated 'good' in the EU 2025 classification. 2026 samples were good apart from one average result in early June, and the ARS advises staying out of the water after storms.
