Sables-d'Or-les-Pins has a huge, flat sand beach in front of the resort, crossed by the channel of the lagoon behind the dunes, with the islet of Saint-Michel off Erquy in the distance. The waves are gentle, softer than at Pléhérel, and suit all levels from first lessons up. The western end is sheltered, so it stays cleaner than its neighbours in a westerly wind. It works mainly from mid tide to high; at low tide the water is a long walk away.

Local tips

Head to the western part of the beach when the wind is westerly. Aim for mid to high tide. At high tide the lagoon behind the beach is calm water for paddleboarding if the sea is too small.

Getting there

The beach is right in front of Sables-d'Or-les-Pins, with shops and restaurants within walking distance. The local surf school is based in the resort.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fairly consistent in winter when a west swell runs, but often flat in summer. The beach slopes gently, which makes the waves softer. The western end is sheltered from west winds and can stay surfable when nearby beaches are blown out.
Crowd and vibe
Relaxed and family-friendly. It is the local surf school's home beach, so expect lessons and learners in season. The beach is wide, so there is plenty of room.
Camping and vans
Camping Les Salines in Plurien, at the entrance to the resort, is about 500 m from the beach. It has 150 pitches and motorhome services, and opens from April to early November. Camping d'Armor in Pléhérel-Plage is also about 500 m from the Sables-d'Or beach. Nearest campsite about 1 km away.
Facilities
In summer there are lifeguards and a rescue post, plus toilets, showers, drinking water and a car park. The resort has shops and restaurants, and Armor Surf School is based in town.
Water quality
Ministry data, as republished online, rate Sables d'Or 'good' every year from 2022 to 2025. Only one sample was average, in July 2025.
