Ondres Plage, sometimes nicknamed Le Hachoir, is a long, open beach near the southern end of the Landes, quieter than Hossegor and Capbreton but with solid waves. It is a sandbar break that is easy on small swells and turns hollow and powerful, with barrels, when a consistent swell runs. The beach is popular with bodyboarders, and the lineup is mostly visitors and beginners with a few locals who expect normal etiquette.

Local tips
Quality changes a lot with the tide, so check it from the dune on the lower half of the tide first. Outside the lifeguarded central zone the baïne currents are strong, and you need to be fit to deal with them.
Getting there
From Ondres village follow avenue de la Plage (D26) to Ondres-Océan, where a large free car park sits at the beach entrance; in summer a shuttle runs from town.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- This open beach break works on most west swells. How good it is depends a lot on the tide and on the rip channels.
- Crowd and vibe
- It is fairly quiet outside summer. In July and August the lifeguarded centre gets busy, but the long beach leaves room to spread out.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Campéole Ondres-Plage is in the pines, about 200 to 500 m from the beach (sources differ). Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- There is a large free car park at the beach entrance, a summer shuttle from town, a few snack bars and surf schools in season, and lifeguards in the centre.
- Water quality
- The Ondres bathing site is rated excellent in the official French rating (national open data, 2022).
