A wild black-sand bay below the Famara cliffs at the northern tip of Lanzarote, just west of the ferry village of Órzola. It takes the full force of north swells and breaks as a mix of sand peaks and a left over rocks at the eastern end. It is powerful, often empty and has strong currents, so it is not a place for learners.

Local tips
Check it when the west coast is too big, as the north tip catches swell from every northerly angle. Paddle out with others if you can, as the beach is often deserted and the currents are strong.
Getting there
From the start of Órzola, a dirt track to the left leads to the beach car park.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Fairly consistent from autumn to spring when a north swell runs, but mostly flat in summer.
- Crowd and vibe
- Few surfers on weekdays, busier at weekends. Wannasurf mentions locals who can be a hassle; come early.
- Camping and vans
- Wild camping is banned on Lanzarote. The only regulated camping area is at Papagayo in the far south, open in set periods with a booking. Vans parked overnight at Famara and Caletón Blanco are a known problem, and overnight stays there are not allowed.
- Facilities
- No services on the beach. Bars and restaurants are in Órzola.

- There is no official bathing-water monitoring point at La Cantería. The nearest one, Caletón Blanco about 2 km south, was rated excellent in 2025 in the EU bathing-water results.
