Ribeira Quente is a fishing village in a steep valley on São Miguel's south-east coast. A peak breaks over cobbles and rock, with lefts and rights; the lefts are usually longer and steeper. Undersea hot springs keep the water here warmer than elsewhere. A sand beach close by has easier waves for beginners.
