Les Dunes is the wildest-feeling stretch of the Anglet coast, backed by dunes rather than a promenade. It shares one long beach break with L'Océan next door, giving punchy, shifting peaks that are well exposed to west swell. Local guides class it with Cavaliers and La Barre as one of the more demanding Anglet spots, though it is a little quieter than Cavaliers.

Local tips

Since Les Dunes and L'Océan are one beach, park at whichever car park has space and walk to the best-looking bank. Check from the dune top for channels before paddling out.

Getting there

From the Anglet seafront road, park at the Dunes or Océan car parks (paid for non-residents in season) and walk over the dune.

Travel notes

How often it works
Open to all westerly swell, so there are waves most days. The quality depends on how the sandbanks sit, and these change after storms.
Crowd and vibe
Less busy than Cavaliers or the Chambre d'Amour. You can usually find a quieter peak by walking along the beach.
Camping and vans
Anglet has two motorhome aires, at La Barre and at Les Corsaires (80 places). The only campsite is Eden Villages Bela Basque, above Lac de Brindos, about 5 km away. Nearest campsite about 5 km away.
Facilities
There are paid car parks behind the dune and a lifeguard post in summer. Cafés are a short walk along the seafront.
Water quality
Anglet's beaches are rated excellent and fly the Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag). After heavy rain a beach can close for a few hours. The Kalilo app shows the daily status.
