Baldaio is a wild beach of sand and rock in Carballo, almost 4 km long. Dunes and a lagoon lie behind it, in the protected Razo–Baldaio area. It catches a lot of swell and works all year, even when the waves are very small. Peaks break left and right, and their quality depends on how the sand has settled. The beach is so long that the crowd spreads out, although numbers have grown in recent years.

Local tips

Walk along the beach to find a peak of your own. Keep to the wooden walkways to protect the dunes.

Getting there

About a five-minute walk from parking, mostly on boardwalks across the dunes.

History

Sand extraction damaged the dunes for years. Decades of campaigning by local people helped them recover, and the birds have come back.

Travel notes

How often it works
It gets swell very often and works even when the waves are tiny. Northerly onshore wind is the main thing that stops it, especially in winter.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers, and they spread out along several kilometres of beach. Surfing here has grown in recent years, but there is still room for everyone and the mood is calm.
Camping and vans
Two campsites sit at the Pedra do Sal end of the beach, about 1.5 km from this peak: Camping Os Delfíns (busiest mid-June to mid-September) and Camping Baldaio. There is also an área de autocaravanas in Razo village, about 2.5 km west. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
The wild beach has few services; the two campsites at Pedra do Sal have a bar and restaurant.
Water quality
Baldaio itself is not on the 2026 Blue Flag list, but Pedra do Sal and Saíñas, at the eastern end of the same stretch of sand, do hold one. A lagoon drains onto the beach. We found no official rating for this part.
