Bayas is part of the longest sandy stretch in Asturias: about 3 km of wild, dune-backed beach facing the islet of La Deva, shared by Castrillón and Soto del Barco. Peaks break all along it, so there is always room. The waves are good for turns. It works on small to medium swells, and its best days come with solid north-west groundswells before the swell gets too big. Some rate it among the best beaches in the Cantabrian Sea for good surfers. It is best at low to mid tide.

Travel notes
- How often it works
- Very open to the sea, so it picks up waves almost all year, even on small swells. October is often the best month.
- Crowd and vibe
- Rarely crowded, because the beach is about 3 km long and has no village behind it. Walk away from the car parks and you can often surf alone. Nudists use the east end and dogs are allowed at the west end.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Las Gaviotas at Santa María del Mar is about 4 km east, and a coast path links it to Bayas. Camping Bahinas is also listed in Castrillón. Nearest campsite about 4 km away.
- Facilities
- Car parks with showers and bins at the main access and lifeguards in summer, but no buildings on the beach, so bring food and water.
- Water quality
- Rated Excellent under the EU bathing-water rules every year from 2022 to 2025 (sampling point at El Sablón de Bayas).
