This is the sandbar at the mouth of the Nalón, between the river jetties at San Juan de la Arena and San Esteban de Pravia. It is fairly exposed and has lefts and rights. On a big swell it can give a long, powerful left off the bar. The river current and boat traffic make it a spot for experienced surfers, and it gets busy when it works.

When it works
✓ A 2–3 m north-west swell at mid to high tide, best around high, with a south to south-east wind.
When it doesn't

Travel notes
- How often it works
- Forecast guides rate it as dependable and able to work at any time of year. Autumn is the best season, but the shape depends on the sand the river leaves at its mouth.
- Crowd and vibe
- Often crowded when it works, as it sits next to the busy Los Quebrantos beach and its surf school.
- Camping and vans
- No campsite in Soto del Barco shows up in the directories we checked. The nearest is Camping Las Gaviotas at Santa María del Mar, about 6 km east. Nearest campsite about 6 km away.
- Facilities
- Uses the Los Quebrantos facilities next door: car park, toilets, showers, beach bars and summer lifeguards, plus restaurants and a marina in the village.
- Water quality
- The nearest official sampling point, Los Quebrantos, was rated Excellent in 2022–2025, but the river mouth itself is not sampled. Surf guides warn of pollution here, so avoid it after heavy rain when the Nalón runs brown.
