Berck is a very long sand beach with some rock, from the Terminus peak in the north, reached across the dunes, to the Baie d'Authie in the south, with two submerged breakwaters near the town that make calmer water. It works on a west to south-west swell and is a known fallback in south-westerly wind, which the coast partly shelters. Waves have ordinary power and short rides, though a good bank can run longer, and the mood is friendly with many beginners. On big tides the window is short: surfers paddle out about two hours before high tide and stop about an hour before.

Local tips
On big tides paddle out about two hours before high water and stop around an hour before; on small tides you can surf most of the day. Find the groynes and the submerged breakwaters at low tide before you surf over them at high tide, notably on the Authie side to the south and one in front of the Calot hospital. Stay away from the lighthouse area: rocks and strong current make it a place only for very bold surfers in a big swell.
Getting there
Most surfers park by the hospital and walk straight onto the beach. For the Terminus peak, park near the Terminus nightclub on the north side and cross the dunes, next to a naturist stretch.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Unreliable. Surf-forecast rates it near the bottom of its scale, with clean waves only about one day in ten, even in November, its best month. Its plus point is some shelter from south-west wind. So it can still be surfable when the rest of the coast is blown out.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually empty on weekdays, with a few surfers at weekends. It stays uncrowded even when the waves are good. Guides describe a friendly atmosphere with lots of beginners.
- Camping and vans
- A town motorhome aire by the sailing base on chemin aux Raisins is right by the sea. It has about 75 places, a seven-day limit and services from March to November. Berck also has a few small campsites, such as L'Alouette, Le Halloy and International Camping. Bigger holiday parks are about 8 km south at Fort-Mahon-Plage. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
- Facilities
- The lifeguarded summer swimming zone is at Plage Dobin in the centre, opposite the Agora complex, with shops and restaurants nearby. There is a sailing base at the end of the Jean Debeyre promenade and a land-yacht centre at the north end.
- Water quality
- The ARS rated it excellent every year from 2015 to 2023 and good in 2024 and 2025. On 21 July 2025 a purple no-swimming flag went up after rain washed pollution into the sea, so wait a day after heavy downpours.
