Berria is two kilometres of open, north-facing sand between Monte Buciero and El Brusco, backed by small dunes on the edge of Santoña. It picks up most north and north-west swells and has punchy peaks all along the beach. At high tide a fast left forms at the El Brusco end. Surf schools work here in summer, while winter swells make it powerful, and it is much quieter than its famous neighbour.

Local tips
Forecasts often call Berria smaller than it is, so drive by even when the forecast looks modest. The rising tide is usually best. The El Brusco end gets the fast high-tide left. When El Brusco is packed, spread out along Berria to find your own peak.
Getting there
From the A-8 take the road to Santoña and follow the signs to Berria. There is parking behind the dunes and a short walk to the sand.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- One of the most consistent beaches in the area. It faces north into open water and gets swell all year: soft waves in summer, faster and hollower ones in autumn and winter.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually just a few surfers spread along two kilometres of peaks. The summer scene is friendly and full of surf schools, and it is far calmer than El Brusco next door.
- Camping and vans
- Santoña has no campsite, and the nearest ones are in Noja, about 6 km away. The paid motorhome park Parking El Paraíso de Berria sits right behind the beach (May to mid-October; no tables or chairs outside). Nearest campsite about 6 km away.
- Facilities
- Beachside parking, toilets, showers, summer lifeguards, beach bars, and surf schools with board hire such as Berria Surf School and Watsay.
- Water quality
- Not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list, though it held one in the past, and no official Náyade rating was found. The protected Santoña marshes lie just south.
