Moledo is a long, open sand beach just south of the Minho river mouth, with the Ínsua island fort offshore. It is a sandbar beach break with peaks up and down the beach, and on good banks it gives fun lefts and rights for all levels. Locals surf it from autumn to spring, and a surf school works from the beach.

Local tips

Wannasurf contributors rate October to April as the good season. Surf early in summer, before the north wind. Watch for rips near the rocks at the ends of the beach.

Getting there

Park in the car park behind the beach in Moledo, a few minutes' drive south of Caminha. The main peaks are in front of the beach bars and the surf school.

Travel notes

How often it works
The beach is open to the Atlantic and picks up most swells, so it has waves on many days. Sandbars shift after storms, which changes the best peak. Big swells close out.
Crowd and vibe
Busy in summer, especially on sunny weekends, and quieter outside the holidays. Wannasurf contributors describe the locals as friendly; show respect and you get it back.
Camping and vans
Orbitur Caminha sits in the Mata do Camarido pine forest north of Moledo, about 1.4 km from the beach. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
In the bathing season there are lifeguards, a first-aid post, toilets, beach bars and a car park. A surf school works from the beach.
Water quality
Moledo's bathing water was rated excellent in the latest official classification by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), and the beach flies a Blue Flag in 2026. APA lists it among beaches with waves of special value for surfing.
